Hyaluronic acid with hyperconcentrated PRP: an option for joint wear

The combination of hyaluronic acid and hyperconcentrated platelet-rich plasma (PRP) brings together two tools with complementary functions: hyaluronic acid contributes to joint lubrication, while PRP, obtained from the patient's own blood, provides platelets and growth factors involved in modulating the joint environment. Treatment aims to reduce pain and improve function in patients with joint wear.

It may be considered in adults with pain and functional limitations associated with joint wear or osteoarthritis, mainly of the knee, when symptoms persist despite rehabilitation and other treatments. Results depend on the diagnosis, patient characteristics and preparation used; a higher platelet concentration does not guarantee better results. Use in other joints requires individual assessment, as evidence is more limited.

The procedure involves drawing and processing blood to obtain PRP, followed by intra-articular administration together with hyaluronic acid, according to the selected protocol and product compatibility. At Medicina Muscular, it is performed under aseptic conditions with ultrasound guidance to visualize the joint and guide the injection, as part of a personalized rehabilitation and progressive exercise program.
